MKS Retreat
Having Fun
Since 1969!

The Maryland Kite Society is well known for its kitemaking retreats. Come learn how to build kites, meet new friends, and have a great time! It's a great way to warm up winter!

The MKS 2006 retreat will be held February 17-20 at the Holiday Inn Fort Detrick hotel in Frederick, Maryland. Frederick is also a wonderful place for non-kite making spouses! It's a charming historic town has many wonderful galleries, restaurants, shops, and a wonderful chocolatier.

The MKS retreat format is unique. Kitemakers bring their sewing machines and supplies, and everyone sets up in a large conference room. All presentations are made in the same room so there's no need to carry machines around.

  Special presenters for 2006 include:
Bob and Charmayne Umbowers, making a classic box kite.
Susan Lennon, with a mixed media sewing optional project.
Drake Smith, with a wonderful bird variation.
Steve Ferrell with the Kite Studio's supplies and tips.
Other surprise presenters, door prizes, and raffles.

Costs are nominal ($88.00 per person) and include all workshops, special fun projects, and a gourmet Saturday night banquet. If you're interested download the registration form and send it to us!

This Rokkaku "Puzzle" was designed by Charlie Dunton and was a MKS Retreat project in 2002. Great fun is still being had with these cooperative Roks!
